2023年11月22日、バンクーバーの小さなカフェでVancouver102が誕生しました。新聞業界で長年働いてきた仲間たちと、新しく加わったメンバーの計8人。長年携わってきた日系新聞の発行終了後も、バンクーバーに関する情報を提供し続けるには、どうしたら良いのか、冷め切ったコーヒーに気づかないほど、熱く話し合っていました。あーでもない、こーでもないと、大学のグループ・プロジェクトのように。そこで生まれたのがVancouver102です！
「Vancouver102」って変な名前！
北米の大学では、一般的に101が1年生の基礎のクラスを指しますが、私たちは基礎をちょっと超え、バンクーバーをより深く理解するためのゲートウェイとして102を選びました。また、目まぐるしい変動の多い今の時代を生きる社会で、カナダの在住年数に関係なく、常に謙虚な姿勢で、探求し学び続けることを忘れないように・・・そう、いつも1年生のようなフレッシュな気持ちでメディアに関わっていく思いも込めています。

On November 22, 2023, Vancouver102 was born in a small café in Vancouver. With colleagues who have worked in the newspaper industry for many years, as well as new members who joined us, the eight of us pondered how to provide beneficial and accurate information to the people living in Vancouver (or those planning to move to Vancouver) after the discontinuation of a local online newspaper in 2023. We passionately discussed this over coffee that went unnoticed as it cooled for about three hours.
“Vancouver102” is quite an unusual name
In North American universities, 101 commonly refers to the foundational class for freshmen, but we decided to look beyond the basics and focus on 102 as a gateway to a deeper understanding of Vancouver. Living in this rapidly changing era, we, regardless of the number of years residing in Canada, aspire to approach our work in media with a perpetual humility and a commitment to continuous exploration and learning… Yes, with the mindset of always being freshmen.
